Use the Classic World starting point

The Classic World class reference puts Magician advancement at level 10 in Ellinia, alongside the other first jobs. Some older SP explainers still use level 8. Do not subtract two levels from this route or copy an old Magician point total. INT is the main stat, with wands and staves as your weapons.

Treat your live skill window as the point-budget authority. This guide deliberately does not promise an unverified 67-SP or 61-SP total.

Keep AP tied to an actual upgrade

Use the next weapon you can realistically acquire as your equipment constraint. Compare its stat requirements against permanent stats and equipment separately. A theoretical low-secondary-stat build is not useful if it leaves you unable to equip the affordable weapon you found.

When comparing equipment, test the same monsters before and after the upgrade. Count casts per kill and include the last weak cast. If an upgrade changes nothing about that count, save the mesos until the next meaningful breakpoint. Keep recovery items funded before experimenting with expensive gear.

Magic Guard redirects part of incoming damage to MP. An empty MP bar is also a survival problem, so monitor both bars.

Why your training spot can bankrupt you

A crowded map can look ideal because its monsters are worth more EXP, yet force constant movement, extra casts and contact damage. Include every recovery item used in a full session. If your mesos fall each time, the route has a limited runway even if its EXP is good.

Start a second test on weaker targets with the same buff and potion rules. If the weaker map lets you sustain the session without a shopping trip, it may win over an hour. Never extrapolate one lucky drop into a guaranteed farming income.

  • Keep emergency recovery on a comfortable key.
  • Refill before a party run instead of hoping a party member covers a shortage.
  • Use the economy budget tool to separate guaranteed costs from speculative sales.

Choose the second job by the loop you enjoy

At level 30, the three branches are Cleric, Ice/Lightning Wizard and Fire/Poison Wizard. Cleric centers on healing and undead encounters; I/L offers ice control and lightning attacks; F/P uses fire and poison. These are different play patterns, not a universal best-class ranking.

  • Choose Cleric if coordinating with a party is part of the appeal.
  • Choose I/L if you enjoy testing grouping and control against map layout.
  • Look at the available training maps before committing to an element.
  • Read the two linked second-job guides for a more detailed transition plan.

AP allocation: a practical next-level plan

Use INT as your main stat and check the requirements on a usable wand or staff. LUK is a common secondary-stat constraint, not a universal fixed ratio. Check every requirement on the actual item before spending.

The five-point example below is arithmetic, not a claim that a particular item has these requirements. Count only equipment bonuses you will still have after changing gear; do not depend on a temporary buff without checking the live equip rules.

SituationExample allocationDecision
Requirements already met5 INTIf the next usable item’s requirements are met, put the example level’s points into the main stat.
Example: 2 LUK short2 LUK + 3 INTCover the verified shortfall first, then use the remaining points on your main stat.
More than 5 points shortUp to 5 LUK, 0 INT in this exampleRecheck the item and budget; bridge the remainder over later levels or keep your current gear.
Frequent missesRecheck accuracy before committing permanent pointsTest weaker targets and gear options; an equipment requirement is not the only concern.
This is an equipment-driven editorial example, not a fixed ratio, reset guarantee, or recommendation to spend permanently on an unverified item.

SP allocation and skill priority

Follow these priorities in order as the relevant skills unlock. A suggested first point is conditional on having an available point in the correct job pool and meeting the current client’s prerequisites; it does not mean every skill is immediately unlocked.

The order is an editorial starting plan, not a tested optimal level-by-level build. Check ranks, costs and the live skill window before each permanent allocation.
